Factors to Consider When Purchasing a Slow Cooker
Slow cookers are a type of appliance used in the kitchen to save time and energy. Their ability to keep a meal ready for serving while one is away from home makes many individuals happy. They are convenient appliances for everyone and the type to buy is dependent on many factors. Here are the elements important to be keen on when selecting a slow cooker.
Programmable cooking time: This aspect is beneficial when an individual requires cooking food while they are not physically in the kitchen. After food is cooked for a certain set duration, the cooker changes its settings to discontinue cooking but keep the food warm.
Temperature Control Settings: this element is crucial for the preparation of various foods under different conditions. They are of three types; on and off settings, cookers with high, low, warm and off settings, and cookers which allow specific temperature settings to be set for cooking. The type to buy is dependent on the kind of food one would like to cook.
Cooking probes: they are effective during the preparation of big meat pieces like whole chicken in regards to temperatures. During meat preparation, they pass through the lid of the cooker and automatically change the cooker’s temperatures respectively.
Inserts: Most slow cookers use ceramic inserts as a standard while others use aluminum inserts. None of them is completely superior over the other; the choice for each is dependent on a person’s preference. But, when compared to aluminum inserts, ceramic inserts have been declared easier to clean and their food has an improved taste.
Lids: Slow cookers come with different types of lids, glass or plastic. The lock down element on glass lids of slow cookers makes them a good choice for food transportation. Plastic lids get foggy over time and make it hard to see the content of the cooker prompting one to keep lifting the lid. The flavor of the food is thus compromised because part of it gets lost as the lid keeps opening.
Size: it majorly contributes to the type of cooker to be selected. The purpose of a slow cooker determines the size which one needs to buy, for example, cookers for making soups or food for a single person don’t need to be large. Similarly, big numbers of people require their food prepared in large cookers.
Shape: the different shapes on cookers are inspired by certain factors. Round shaped cookers are suitable for soups, stews, and sauces while the oval-shaped cookers are good for chicken, large meat cuts, and pot roasts.
